This past Monday, June 27th, a Supreme Court missing a conservative Justice chose to vote against a Texas law, HB2. The law required abortion clinics to have ambulatory access and admitting-privileges at a nearby hospital if something were to go wrong during a procedure. Responding to the ruling, President Obama said, “I am pleased to see the Supreme Court protect women’s rights and health today.”
Has common sense taken a vacation within the Supreme Court?
If you decide to be in the pro-choice crowd, that is one thing, but to say HB2 would create an “undue burden” on a woman’s right to an abortion is complete nonsense. When I heard this decision, the very first thought that crossed my mind was the following: why on Earth wouldn’t we want this?
How would any woman decide to have an abortion in a dirty clinic that did not meet the same standards as a surgical center? After all, this is an intensely brutal procedure, why wouldn’t you want a sterile environment? This doesn’t sound like an undue burden, it sounds like the lawmakers in Texas saw some less than desirable clinics in their state.
But let’s get past the common sense medical practice for a moment. This decision also chips away a little more from States’ Rights. A State knows better than the Federal Government what is happening within its own boundaries. This ruling is doing nothing more than sending a strong signal to State Legislators and that Federal Big Brother knows better than you.
Or the Federal Government THINKS it knows better…
I think they look foolish. The President has made this oddly about “women’s health,” yet he cheers for a decision that makes abortion clinics less healthy. But this is yet another glimpse into the warped minds of the Left. In their own minds they were capable of vilifying a simple, common sense STATE rule that ensued women’s health would be protected during a grotesque procedure.
So, how did we get to this point? How has our nation become so obsessed with linking abortion to women’s health care? It all comes around to verbiage.
Too many Americans have become numb to the idea that a life has been created. They cannot conceive that a child in the womb is an actual person with a soul. Instead the Left and its allies change the verbiage to make a human being less personal.. less real. Rather than use “baby,” that little human being carried by a woman has been devalued to something technical… something impersonal… something scientific. They use “fetus,” not “baby.”
Fetus isn’t a person but a clump of cells. It denotes a scientific mass. It implies something that doesn’t feel… making it is easier to stomach a procedure to end the life of a baby.
Tragically, it also makes it easier for Judges in Washington, DC, and Presidents with a Leftist agenda to make decisions like that which the Supreme Court made the other day.
But any person with a conscience knows better. They know the decision is not about women’s health care, it is a matter of morality. The Supreme Court did not weigh in on the side of women’s health. No undue burden was created by ensuring the hallways of an abortion clinic were wide enough to accommodate a stretcher. This is about redefining our morals.
They caved to a society which has become flippant on the value of human life. Political leaders and judges who believe terminating a baby’s life should not be inconvenienced by a law designed to protect a woman’s life are not motivated by women’s health. They are the product of a society that has lost its way.
I pray that we find that way back.
